Search for Files in a Google Drive Folder
As usual, G Suite is always getting better! Now you can search for files within a folder! I have wanted to do this so many times!
Go to the Folder in Drive
The easiest way to locate a file within a folder in Google Drive is to open the folder in Google Drive. Notice in the breadcrumbs at the top the tiny triangle next to the folder name. Click on it. In the menu options for that folder is an option to “Search within ” that folder.
Use the Search Box
After selecting to “Search within” from the folder menu, use the search box at the top. Notice that underneath the search box you are informed that this search is not searching all of Google Drive but rather “Searching in” your folder.
Start with the Search Box
You can also use the advanced search from the search box at the top of Google Drive. Click on the tiny triangle in the search box to open the filter options. Notice the option for “Location” that says “Anywhere.” You do not want to search anywhere, you want to search within a folder. Click on “Anywhere” to locate your folder.

I don’t see this option on the drop-down menu next to the breadcrumbs or within the advanced search option. Could it be that my district has deactivated this function?
Your district may not have rapid release turned on, be patient!
OMG! This just made my life SOOOOO much better! I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve wished this option was available! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Alice, do you know when this feature will be available?
All new features roll out. You may have to wait 2 weeks for new features to become available to you.
