Put the hay workers out of business

At church today the pastor told the story of then governor Van Buren who wrote a letter denouncing the upcoming railroad being put in. He pointed out that the hay growers, harness makers, stage drivers and all the other people connected directly or tangentially to the stage coach would be unemployed.

What do people do when technology makes their job obsolete? If they are not life long learners having to obtain a totally different job will be challenging.

Technology advances come much faster these days than they did “back in the day” this creating more jobs that do not exist anymore. As teachers we are preparing students for jobs that may not exist.

What skills will help students adapt, able to learn new things and be marketable for a lifetime?
