Canva – How to Turn Your Selfie into a Sticker: A Fun and Easy Guide

Ever wished you could turn your selfie into a fun, personalized sticker to use in your classroom? Maybe to reward students, liven up lesson materials, or just add a touch of personality to your classroom newsletter? With Canva for Education, it’s surprisingly easy! This free, user-friendly tool empowers both teachers and students to unleash their creativity and transform ordinary photos into eye-catching stickers.

Start with a Selfie

The focus of this how to guide is on taking a picture of a person and adding a border around the person to give the illusion of being a sticker. Start with a selfie and add to Canva. The Canva app for your phone makes this easy to add photos from your camera roll. Add the selfie to a Canva design project.

Use BG Remover

Remove the background in your photo. Click on the picture in your project and select “Edit image” in the toolbar at the top. The sidebar offers the option for “BG Remover.”

Shadows

Also in the edit image sidebar is the option for “Shadows.” This will allow you the ability to create the border around the background removed selfie.

Outline Shadow

Select the option for “Outline” under Shadows. This will add a black border around the edge of the selfie. Use the sliders to adjust the size of the outline. Click on “Color” to change from black to white if desired.

Download Project

Once you’re happy with your sticker, click the “Download” button in the top right corner of Canva. Choose PNG as the file format to preserve the transparent background, allowing your sticker to seamlessly blend onto any surface. Now you can print your sticker on sticker paper, share it digitally, or even incorporate it into other Canva designs!

Create Tutorials

Engaging students in the creation of digital materials is crucial, especially when they are guided by teachers they know and trust. By incorporating your personalized stickers, such as your selfie pointing in different directions, you can emphasize key steps in a tutorial or digital lesson. This visual cue not only makes the instructions clearer but also adds a personal touch that can make the learning experience more relatable and enjoyable.

Start by taking several selfies of yourself pointing to different directions or holding different props that relate to the steps of your tutorial. Upload these images to Canva and turn each one into a sticker following the steps outlined earlier. Integrate these stickers into your digital tutorials to highlight instructions or important information, making the tutorial not just informative but also visually engaging.

Document each step of creating and integrating these stickers into your tutorials in a clear, step-by-step guide in Canva. This can serve as an excellent resource for teaching design principles and effective communication in digital formats. By using your own image, you reinforce your presence in the learning process, making digital education a more personal and impactful experience.

Use Canva to Turn Your Selfie Into a Sticker
