1 Hour Exactly
I am going to lead with this: The key to a #CoffeeEDU is that it is EXACTLY one hour to the minute. If someone is talking …. I politely cut them off mid sentence. At the start of #CoffeeEDU I warn people this is how it works. 1 hour to the minute.
Teachers are busy but we also crave sharing teaching ideas and connections. If you know it will be one hour to the minute… “Okay I can set aside some time.” If it might go longer… Harder to justify getting away.
UnConference
Do NOT pick the topic in advance. In fact, as host I try not to inject topic ideas unless I have to. UnConference is supposed to be participant driven.
Any Educator Welcome
The conversations tend to move away from complaining about yard duty if you can get at least one person from a different school. A CoffeeEDU is a one hour meetup of educators. Be sure to include in your invite that all educators are welcome. Meeting new people is energizing because you learn new teaching ideas!!
Anyone Can Host
Just decide you want coffee. ?. And that you want to chat teaching. There is no rule you have to talk about teaching but… You get teachers together and they just will.
Pick a time date and location that is convenient for you.
Trying to coordinate with a group is not fun or easy. Just decide on something and if no one shows up… You’re at a coffee shop having coffee. So no downside.
