Hold Down the Control Key
It is helpful to get in the habit of holding down the Control key (Command on a Mac) when clicking on links. This forces the link to open in a new tab so you do not lose the page you are on.
Google Search
When you Google Search something very likely you will want to review more than one of the search results. Hold down Control when clicking on a search result to avoid losing your page of results.
Gmail
When I get emails from Google Classroom I hold down the Control key when clicking on the blue button in the middle of the email. This launches Google Classroom in another tab. It can be slow to wait for Google Classroom to load, so I don’t wait. I delete the email and then open another Google Classroom email and hold down the Control key when I click on the blue button in the middle of the email. Delete that email also. I repeat this process until I have about 7 tabs loaded up and ready to respond to.
Google Classroom
When reviewing student work in Google Classroom I sometimes want to look at the student’s overall assignment submission history.
Classwork Page
It can be a little frustrating to return to the Classwork page. Tip, do not leave the Classwork page. Hold down the Control key when clicking on ‘View Assignment.” This will open the assignment in a different tab (Control W). Close the tab and you’re right back where you were on the Classwork page. Instruct students to hold down the Control key when they “View Assignment.”
