Highlights from the April newsletter

The articles in the April newsletter were a very interesting read. How can we help students be more engaged in their learning and get more out of it? Some great points posed in the articles to help think about this.

Learning from failure is an important part of the learning process. Jo Boaler, Stanford math professor, also states that “failure and struggles are the most important part of math and learning.”

Will Richardson provides a list of 9 things we tend to know about teaching. Students will forget a lot of what they “learn,” they need authentic learning experiences that are engaging.

Classroom walkthroughs are not necessarily about helping teachers improve. Are students engaged in compliance or authentic engagement? Who is doing the work and the talking? Are students collaborating or merely sitting near each other?
