If you use spreadsheets, you have a need to make columns wider or skinnier. However, you also need to make rows taller and shorter. Getting just the right height or width helps your spreadsheets reach Nirvana. Tall rows can be shrunk down all at once.

Tall Rows to Skinny Rows
You will notice in spreadsheets the column indicators are labeled A, B, C, etc… and the row indicators are labeled 1, 2, 3. Has you hover your mouse between column indicators or row indicators you’ll see the mouse arrow change.
When placed right between the row indicators the mouse arrow becomes a resizing arrow. Click and hold down as you drag your mouse up or down to make the tall rows skinnier… or taller.
Too Much Text in a Cell
Too much text in a cell can cause the row to be too tall and difficult to maneuver around in the spreadsheet. Resize the row to tame it. Right click on the row indicator to choose “Resize Row.”

Resize All The Rows
No need to resize rows one at a time. Click on the row indicator and hold down the Shift key before clicking on another row indicator. Those rows, and all the rows in between will be selected. Resizing one row, will resize all of the rows equally.
Non Contiguous Rows
Holding down the Shift key to select rows allows you to highlight an entire section of rows. However, you may want to resize some rows, and they may not be touching. Hold down the Control key and click on the specific row indicators you want to resize. Again, resizing one row will resize all the selected rows.
Do Not Resize the First Row
It is not unusual that I want to resize all the rows, except the first row. Clicking on the “Awesome box” to the left of column indicator A and right above row indicator 1 will select all. Hold down the Control key and click on column indicator 1 to deselect row 1. Now you have all the rows, except the first row. Resize one row, and all of the rows will resize to the same height.

When Code Won't Resize the Rows
Another way to resize the rows is to record a macro. In Google Sheets this is actually creating code that will allow you to execute the same steps again. When using Educator AI Assistant, it imports in the prompts for the AI teacher tools. Some of the prompts are quite detailed and take up a lot of room. To make the Tool Library easier to navigate, I wanted to reduce the height of the rows. I recorded a macro to select all the rows, deselect the first row, and resize the remaining rows to allow me to easily read the tools in the Tool Library. To no avail. There is a bug that is defaulting to “Auto Fit.”
Good Thing Resizing All the Rows is Easy
If you come across the situation where Auto Fit is overriding your macro, simply select all, hold down the Control key to deselect row 1, and resize one row to quickly clean up the tall rows.
