YouTube video

My favorite part of Google Sheets is inserting checkboxes! WICKED USEFUL FOR TEACHERS! My daughter is helping me with my YouTube thumbnails (check out her handiwork and subscribe to my channel 🙂 She is using a Google Sheets spreadsheet to keep track of how many thumbnails she creates for me, and I’m paying her. She made a list of checkboxes and each time she creates one she marks a checkbox rather than using a tallymark somewhere.

Counting Checkboxes

So how do you know how many checkboxes you’ve checked?

=COUNTIF(A2:A, true)

Type an equals sign into a cell. Use the =COUNTIF function. Highlight the checkboxes and the range should automatically appear in your formula. I like to only partially highlight the column of checkboxes and then modify the end of the range to just be the column letter to indicate… all the rest of the column.

True

COUNTIF is looking to count IF the condition matches. A checkbox that is checked has a default value of true. In the COUNTIF formula use comma true to indicate that you are looking for checked checkboxes.
