Embed in New Google Sites

Finally! You can embed in Google Sites. The “Embed URL” has been changed to just “Embed.”

When you double click on the page, the insert wheel now allows you the option to “Embed.”

When selecting “Embed” a pop up gives you the option to embed “By URL” or “Embed Code.” Click on the “Embed Code.”

Websites such as Twitter may allow for embedding, you need to obtain the embed code and copy it.

Twitter

Select a tweet, and click on the “More” arrow in the upper right of the tweet. A drop down menu of additional options allows you to “Embed Tweet.”

Don’t freak out at the code, just copy it. You don’t need to read the code or understand it. Control C to copy.

In the pop up for Google Sites, paste the embed code.

Embedded Tweet in new google sites

Embed a Hashtag

To embed a hashtag or user feed into the new Google Sites you want to click on your profile picture in the upper right and choose “Settings and privacy.”

On the left hand side, choose “Widgets” from the menu.

Choose “Create new” widget.

Choose “Search.”

Search for the hashtag or twitter handle and choose “Create widget.”

This will give you the embed code to copy.

Embed Twitter Feed

In Google Sites, insert “Embed” by using the sidebar or double-clicking to view the insert wheel. Paste the code into the “Embed code” tab.

Resize

When embedding a Twitter feed you will want to show at least 3 tweets. Grab the resizing handles, specifically the one at the bottom, and DRAG to show more of the feed.

Publish

Do not forget to publish your Google Site to have the embedded Twitter feed show up on the site. Click Publish, then click on the tiny triangle next to the Publish button to “View published site.”

  1. I have been waiting for this option forever!!!! However, I checked both my personal and school account and am still only seeing embedded URL. Any idea when it will be pushed out to everyone?
