Google Classroom: You Can Add Videos

You can add videos to Google Classroom from a Chromebook or any device. Students can submit videos to Google Classroom. One thing that is great about Google Classroom is the ability to add any file type. You are not restricted to Google Docs.

Make Video

You can obviously record video on a phone or iPad. On laptops and Chromebooks you can create screencasts or webcam videos. On my Mac, I use the Photo Booth app. On my Chromebook, I use Screencastify, which will do both screencast and webcam.

Video to Google Classroom

There are 2 ways to get your video into Google Classroom… Well, three if you count YouTube.

Google Drive

Get it in Drive.

It is wicked easy to put things in Google Classroom if it’s in Drive. Students or teachers simply click the Drive icon in an assignment to link to the video in Google Drive.

Google Classroom will put your video into Google Drive for you. Using the “Add” button As a teacher click on the paper clip icon when creating an assignment to add the video. The video will appear in the assignment.

Students can choose the option to “Add” when submitting an assignment. They also use the paper clip icon to add their video into Google Classroom. The video, as any other item, will be added to the student’s Classroom folder and the teacher’s Classroom folder in Google Drive. The teacher can locate the student’s video right in the assignment assessment screen or from Google Drive.

From Mobile

In a previous post, I blogged on uploading video directly into Google Classroom from the Google Classroom app. While it is cool that you can click “Record video” as an option when creating an assignment it is not much more effort to add video to Classroom without this option. If students or teachers record video on their phone outside of the Classroom app they simply choose “File” as the attachment type and select the video they recorded. I mention this because I like the option to record several attempts and choose the attempt I like best to load into Classroom.

    1. It’s a temporary issue with Drive which was slammed with literally everyone in the whole world uploading video at once. They have implemented a fix and the issue should resolve soon.
