Scramble with Friends

Scramble with Friends

This week I was a substitute for an English class. Being a math teacher it is a little outside of my expertise, but I welcome a challenge and change.

One girl in the class indicated she felt she needed to work on spelling. Not sure how I can tackle spelling in one hour I suggested we download scramble with friends. I thought the kids, who have 1:1 iPads, could compete against each other and this practice spelling words.

There is an on off switch to show words that were not found. Students could list 3 words from each game that they did not get and didn’t know. Use dictionary.com to define them. Have the students look for common words they can find in the game to help increase their abilities.

I’ve learned new words from scramble, this might be a fun way for students to practice words also.
