If you are using a Windows machine you may be wondering how to take screenshots. The Surface Pro 3 makes it easy by double clicking the end of the pen. If you do not have a Surface, every Windows computer has the Snipping Tool pre installed. The Snipping Tools allows you to take a partial screenshot and annotate the screenshot.

Start Screen

The Start screen shows tiles of applications on your PC. If you do not have the snipping tool select the Windows key to toggle to the start screen. The snipping tool is located under the list of Apps. You can access this by swiping up from the bottom of the Start screen.  Note you must swipe from the middle or the customize options bar will appear instead. Alternatively you can bring the mouse to the lower left corner of the Start screen to reveal an arrow in a circle that will take you to the list of Apps.

Press and Hold App

Locate the “Snipping Tool” in the list of apps. It is located under “Windows accessories.” Tapping on the app launches the app. Instead, hold down on the app until the customize bar appears at the bottom. Chose “Pin to taskbar.” This gives you quick access to the snipping tool whenever you are using your PC.

Desktop View

You should now see the Snipping Tool in the taskbar when in desktop view. Right click on the icon in the taskbar to unpin it from the taskbar if you no longer wish to have it pinned.

For a bonus tip, if you are using a Surface Pro 3 tablet you can take a full screen screenshot by holding down the down volume button and pressing the windows icon at the same time.
